Published in 2018, Transmission is a 13-minute short film created, written, and produced by Kamee Abrahamian, lee williams boudakian, Emily Mkrtichian, and Anahid Yahjian.
Kamee Abrahamian was born into an Armenian family displaced from the SWANA (Southwest Asian, North African) region, and grew up in an immigrant suburb of Toronto. They arrive in the world today as a queer and feminist mother, interdisciplinary creative, scholar, writer, producer, and facilitator. They have a BFA/BA in film and political science (Concordia University), an MA in expressive art therapy (European Graduate Institute), and soon to be MA/PhD in community, liberation, indigenous and eco psychologies (Pacifica Graduate Institute). They have published both literary and academic work, facilitated workshops, and exhibited and curated art, films and staged performances internationally.
lee williams boudakian (they/them/theirs) is an Artistic Producer working across Film, Performance, and Digital Media. Recent Projects include Dear Armen (2013-2017), Setting Bones (2017), and World of Q (2017-2019). Lee holds an Honours BA from the University of Toronto in Contemporary Visual Studies, English Literature, and Politics; and is currently pursuing a joint Master of Fine Arts (Film and Media Production) and Master of Business Administration (Schulich School of Business) at York University. As a queer, trans & non-binary, mixed-Armenian raised in an immigrant family, lee grew up pulled between many worlds that seemed incompatible, constantly feeling like they had to choose one part of themself or one community over another.
Emily Mkrtichian is an American-Armenian filmmaker and writer. Her past work includes directing reportage films aired on ARTE France/Germany; producing the award-winning short film 140 Drams (Camerimage, Clermont-Ferrand, Best Int’l short Izmir IFF 2013); and the immersive, multimedia installation Luys i Luso, an exploration music’s effect on spaces that were lost to a genocide a century before. She directed the documentary Motherland, about the women who shake tradition and risk their lives to rid their country of landmines leftover from an ethnic war.
Anahid Yahjian is an independent writer, director and producer of experimental, documentary and narrative cinema. She produced the internationally awarded narrative short 140 Drams (Camerimage, Clermont-Ferrand 2013), laid the creative groundwork for the feature documentary Spiral (IDFA Bertha Fund 2015, Golden Apricot 2017) and shot and directed the viral digital documentary LEVON: A Wondrous Life (2013). When not creating her own work, she directs branded content and music videos for clients such as Amazon Music and Joyful Noise Recordings. She has supervised post production on televised series and digital content for A24, Netflix, Vice and Spotify.
After a deadly car crash, a queer activist couple are flung into parallel realities and must embark on a search between worlds to find each other again.
