Published in 2018, Transmission is a 13-minute short film created, written, and produced by Kamee Abrahamian, lee williams boudakian, Emily Mkrtichian, and Anahid Yahjian.
Kamee Abrahamian was born into an Armenian family displaced from the SWANA (Southwest Asian, North African) region, and grew up in an immigrant suburb of Toronto.
Released in 1969, The Color of Pomegranates by Sergei Parajanov is his best known masterpiece. Commenting on the film, Martin Scorsese said, “I didn’t know any more about Sayat-Nova at the end of the picture than I knew at the beginning, but instead what Parajanov did was he opened a door into a timeless cinematic experience.”
Released in 2016, Listen to Me, produced by Pink Armenia, is the first [*] documentary film about Queer Armenians living in Armenia.
The film features 10 Queer folx who took on the risk to discuss their lives in Armenia on-camera.
Published in 2016, Queer Roots for the Diaspora: Ghosts in the Family Tree by Jarrod Hayes is nonfiction academic book, a “comparative study in Queer diaspora studies.”
Jarrod Hayes received his Ph.D. from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York in 1996.
Published in 2019, Hold My Hand by Michael Barakiva is the sequel to his first novel One Man Guy. This is the third [*] young adult novel featuring a Gay Armenian-American protagonist.
Barakiva is a writer, director, and producer. He is the founding Artistic Director of The Upstart Creatures, a not-for-profit theatre company based in New York City.
Published in 2008, The Armenians of Pittsburgh by Dr. Nyri A. Bakkalian is an essay featured in Queer Around the World: A LGBTQ+ True Stories Anthology.
Nyri A. Bakkalian, Ph.D. is a queer Armenian-American by birth, a military historian by training, and is proud to have called the American and Japanese northeasts her home.
Why a Queer Armenian Library?
As far as we know, there is no library dedicated exclusively to literature by, about, and for Queer Armenians. This library is an attempt to bring together as many of the essays, memoirs, novels, poetry, and films that were made by Queer Armenians and made about Queer Armenians.
