Armenian Homonationalism: A Reflection by Aram Amirbekian

Published in 2024, Armenian Homonationalism: A Reflection is a personal essay analyzing the complicated relationship between Armenian queerness and Armenian nationalism. The essay is part of a growing body of work of Armenian thinkers who explore how current Armenian nationalism continues more and more to define its identity not solely on having an intense pro-Armenia attitude, but also having an equally intense anti-LGBTQ attitude. This essay is on the leading edge of analysis in the aftermath of the 2020 war in Artsakh/Karabakh.

The essay was published in The Journal for Conflict Transformation, Caucasus Edition. It is an independent online publication that serves as a forum for scholars, practitioners, journalists, policy analysts and novice researchers to analyze as well as discuss conflicts and related issues in the South Caucasus and Turkey.

Aram Amirbekian has been involved in journalism since 2020, currently freelancing for various platforms and media outlets. He has been focusing on conflict resolution, the impact of armed conflicts and geopolitics on international infrastructures as well as queer issues in South Caucasus.
