Presented in 2018, Body Politics was a groundbreaking exhibition featuring contemporary visual art and archival selections that traced how the body, in its individual and collective forms, serves as a catalyst, canvas and symbol for political action and expression in LGBTQI+ communities.
Glendale’s Library, Arts and Culture Department (California) presented Body Politics in its ReflectSpace Gallery and the PassageWay. The curators were Anahid Yahjian along with Anahid and Ara Oshagan.

Anahid Yahjian is an independent writer, director and producer of experimental, documentary and narrative cinema. Her work is driven by questioning and pursuit: of history, of power, of memory, of liminality, of the surreal and the sublime.
Curated by Anahid and Ara Oshagan, ReflectSpace Gallery at the Downtown Central Library is a new hybrid exhibition space designed to explore and reflect on major human atrocities, genocides and civil rights violations. Immersive in conception, ReflectSpace is both experiential and informative, employing art, technology and interactive media to engage viewers on an emotional and personal level. ReflectSpace strives to reflect the past and present of Glendale’s communal fabric and interrogate current-day global human rights issues.
Featured Artists in Body Politics: Nazik Armenakyan, Enrique Castrejon, Grey James, Nicole Kelly and Phoebe Unter (Bitchface), Devon Shimoyama, Annie Tritt and James Wentzy. Artists in the PassageWay provided by Self Help Graphics: Ruben Esparza, Antonio Ibanez y Carlos Bueno, Rigo Maldonado, Miguel Angel Reyes, Gabriel Garcia Roman, Shizu Saldamando, and Hector Silva.
